WE JUST WALK... Zuo Ma was born in 1983 on the outskirts of Hubei under the name Zuo Jian. In 2005, she graduated from the Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology. As a comic artist and illustrator, Zuo Ma is today considered one of the most important cartoonists in the contemporary Chinese comic scene. Zuo Ma is known for his style that blurs the line between the real and the surreal. "Walking" which consists of 10 stories is a "surreal autobiography" that was first published in China in 2013. It was first published in Indonesia in 2018 by Rotasi Books, translated by Chandra Agusta. In this book, Zuo Ma visits back to his childhood and adolescence in his hometown. He photographs rural changes that are happening everywhere in various parts of the world: they must be displaced by state projects; idealism as a comic artist; also the relationship between humans and animals is presented in a rather strange way to us. Of the 10 stories, we felt that "People in the Park" was the most memorable. Although for the comic artist himself this story is very restraining because it prevents him from using words, we enjoy where the characters in the comics take us to human faces that seem natural and complex, as well as the anxiety that is brought along the way.
